Folder and ZIP Compare
Compare file contents in two folders or ZIP archives, then inspect selected pairs with existing tools.
Use this tool directly in your browser without installing software or signing in.
- Verify file contents
- Verified rename candidates
- Document, sheet and image details
How to compare
- Choose a folder or ZIP on each side. Originals are not changed.
- Review path-matching options and start comparison.
- Inspect files with different contents and files present on only one side.
- Select individual pairs for document, spreadsheet, image or text comparison.
File contents versus detailed comparison
File-content comparison reads the actual contents to completion. Files can look the same while storing different data. Detailed comparison uses the existing document, Excel, PDF, image and text tools without changing the file-content result.
Excel details compare only the selected sheets and headers by position. Other sheets are excluded. For images, check overlapping, added and removed coverage together with the working resolution.
Limits and supported inputs
The entire job allows up to 50,000 entries, 1 GiB of expanded content and 256 MiB per entry. ZIP directory reads also have a 2 MiB limit. Detailed comparison allows 4 MiB per text file or 16 MiB per other file, plus each tool’s own limits.
Empty folders, permissions and filesystem metadata are not fully compared. Encrypted ZIP entries and symbolic links are unsupported. Word and HWP comparisons require matching document families.
Rename candidates
Only byte-verified identical contents form rename-candidate groups. Duplicate contents are not arbitrarily paired. No filesystem names or locations are changed. Additional rereads are bounded to 3 GiB and 10,000 byte verifications.
Frequently asked questions
Can comparison change original files?
No. It is read-only: files are not copied, edited, deleted, synchronized or renamed.
Does cancellation discard completed results?
Completed results remain. Unfinished entries are labeled canceled or unknown. Results from an older selection cannot replace a new job.
Why can bytes differ when detailed comparison shows no changes?
Stored metadata or content outside the selected tool’s scope can differ. Check the detailed tool’s scope and warnings.
