If a cover page is added to the revised version, which pages should I compare?

A PDF's text information and the visual appearance of its pages can differ. Text comparison checks the differences in the extracted text from the PDF, while visual comparison checks the differences in how the pages are drawn. Since scanned documents like photos might not have extractable text, do not assume the content is the same based solely on text results.

First, ensure that pages containing the same content are linked. If a cover page was added to the revision, subsequent pages might be shifted by one. Match the pages, run the comparison again, and review the locations of changed numbers, dates, signatures, and tables alongside the original text.

Examples and Selection Help

If a revision adds a cover, the first body page may need to be matched with page 2 instead of page 1. When document structures differ, use manual page matching and verify that each pair contains corresponding content before comparing.

Can this find every difference in a PDF?

Visual results compare pixels under the same PDF render settings, while text results follow the PDF's stored extraction order. Review both; the tool does not determine document equivalence.

What happens when pages are inserted or reordered?

Pages initially match by physical page number. Review added or deleted pages, then optionally assign each page at most once in manual mapping and compare again.

Are PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. Opening PDFs, rendering pages, extracting text, and creating reports happen in the current browser without modifying the source files.
