Use Cases
- Consolidating departmental data into one file
- Merging monthly lists vertically
- Attaching divided tables in a specific direction.
What to Prepare
Excel or CSV files to merge and the sheets to include.
How to Use
- Add files and select the sheets to merge.
- Check the order of files and sheets that will be in the result.
- Choose a merging method. 'By Sheet' collects sheets, 'Vertical' appends downwards, and 'Horizontal' appends sideways.
- Review options to maintain formulas and formatting, and the support guide on the screen, before merging.
- Open the result and check if the number of sheets, rows, and column positions are as expected.
Results and Precautions
Creates a new XLSX file. Features beyond macros and the supported range may not be maintained, so keep the original. Do not confuse horizontal merging with features that automatically link data based on criteria like customer ID.
What is the difference between merging into one file and appending to one sheet?
If you want to gather data by department into one file but view each table separately, choose merge by sheet. To stack lists with the same columns vertically, use vertical merge. To combine tables with the same row order side-by-side, use horizontal merge.
Horizontal merge is not a feature for looking up customer numbers or employee IDs to link the same person. If the row order of the two tables differs, incorrect values may be placed side-by-side, so always check the data order first. After saving the result, check the number of sheets, the first and last rows, and a few key formulas.
Examples and Selection Help
Use merge by sheet to keep January and February data on separate tabs, or vertical merge to append transactions with the same columns. Horizontal merge assumes matching row order; check row alignment and repeated header rows in the saved result.
Frequently asked questions
Can XLSX formulas and formatting be preserved independently?
Yes. Formula and formatting preservation are separate XLSX switches on the current screen and require no additional files.
Can XLS formulas and formatting be preserved independently?
Yes. Formula and formatting preservation are separate switches, and either one opens the higher-fidelity conversion workspace.
Does preservation retain every XLS feature perfectly?
It prioritizes formulas and common cell formatting, but charts, external links, macros and some advanced objects can differ. Verify important output in Excel.
